Well, we’re here. I’m in Astoria, haha! I’m actually on the floor of Krista’s living room, writing by the illumination from my Kennsington USB light.
We got into the city at 8:04pm. Dave had set his GPS to take us directly to John’s Pizzeria on Bleeker. It’s ETA prediction (after he set it to the right time-zone) was accurate within 20 minutes, pretty impressive.
I’m enjoying my new bag. I’ve packed very light, considering I’m carrying my 12″ Powerbook with me. Still, it’s A LOT lighter than the black Ogio I carry in Columbus.
Anyway, John’s 16″ half-meatballs/half-pepperoni. Awesome. Real fossil fuels on the crust. Brilliant pizza. We walked a big circle around some of the Village and got ice cream. Yum.
We took a scenic route up 6th and then back down through Times Square. Acacia let out a “This is awesome” as we reached Central Park. We could see someone playing in Lincoln Center’s new Rose Theater, which has windows behind the stage that look out into Columbus Circle. I’ve since figured out that it was probably Ron Carter, who played in Miles Davis’s great 1960s quintet. Holy shit!
Then we called Krista and let Dave’s GPS guide us. It’s great to be with Krista and have such great friends around me.
Tomorrow we see SITI. It’s a bit disappointing, I got an email tonight that what we thought was going to be a 4-hour event complete with Suzuki and VP will only be about an hour. Alack.
Here’s the list of everything else we’re trying to do. SohoRep, Richard Foreman, Sweeney Todd, Kurt Elling @ Birdland, Moma, shopping, sight-seeing (mainly for Acacia), hanging out with Krista. Plus, we have a show at LaMama and now the Lincoln Center Jazz thing on the back burner. Oh, and we need to eat tons of great food. That too. And not go broke while we’re at it.
We’ll see how that all turns out.
