Here are the answers to those trivia questions I launched at the Drexel Oscar bash.
And … apologies to anyone who was offended by my comments about Helen Mirren. But she is 64 years old, and you should accept that.
Martin Scorsese won an Oscar for Director in 2007 for The Departed. He should’ve won for what film? (He lost in ’91 to Kevin Costner. C’mon!)
Scorsese has 6 nominations. The Aviator, Gangs of New York, Goodfellas, The Last Temptation of Christ, Raging Bull, and The Departed. Of those, Goodfellas (which was fell to Dances With Wolves) shoulda won.
Kate Winslet won Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2009 for The Reader. She should’ve won for what film?
In 2006, Helen Mirren got a pity prize for The Queen, shutting out Kate’s powerful turn in one of the best movies of the decade, Little Children, for which she shoulda won.
Denzel Washington won an Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2002 for Training Day. He should’ve won for what film?
Denzel’s been nominated 3 times. He was good in Hurricane, but Spacey was great in American Beauty. In 1992, though, when his performance in Malcolm X lost to Al Pacino, who was getting a pity award of his won, he shoulda won.
Al Pacino got a Best Actor in a Leading Role trophy for Scent of a Woman in 1993. He should’ve won for what film?
Serpico? Godfather 2? How bout Scarface or Sea of Love (he wasn’t even nominated for either of those). You pick. For almost anything but Scent of a Woman, he shoulda won.
